Types of America

Anecdotes, stories and thoughts from the Road, told using a manual typewriter, typed on from the back of a VW van.

Anonymous asked: Loved your article on Sunburg. I grew up in Sunburg and you nailed it. I spent many mornings waiting in Skindeleins shop while my dad shot the bull at the café with the other farmers in the area. I saw you also made it to NM and Bingham. I live in Albuquerque now and love that my job takes me all over the state, including Bingham. Hope you enjoy your travels. Howd you like Bingham?

Hey! I liked Bingham a lot, although all I can say I saw of the town was a rock shop. The desert out to the north of there, across the highway, the Jornada del Muerto. Well, some things happened out there that were beyond my comprehension as a conscious human, things other-worldly, strange and frightening. I will write about them here. New Mexico, though — what a lovely state. And Marsha? What a treasure. I hope to see her and the good folks in Sunburg soon. Be well, and thanks for following along! ~Chris

Anonymous asked: Hideeho...you're on the road again. Thanks for visiting. May your journey be MORE than you hope for. tom braun

Thanks for all you are and all you do, Tom. A good man you are.

skuterescz asked: Great writing. Wish I could write like that. I work in an office 8 till 5, feel like I have no experiences to write about. Have you published a book?

Hi there. First off, thanks for the compliment! I don’t know if I write well, or alright, or ok, or what have you. I just like being curious, talking to strangers, documenting my world in a place and time. That you appreciate a smidgen of it makes me feel good, and I want to thank you for taking the time to follow along. A book? Not yet, but I think when all’s said and done, you will see something bound to come out of all this adventuring. Be well, wherever you are. ~Chris
